It is night. One of those superb August nights here, on Bactriana, and I sit outside, watching the shining stars in the sky. They are beautiful! As I smoke a pipe of blue weed, one of the best in the Universe that grows here, on Bactriana – much better than the red one from Northern Lights – I can’t stop wondering how it all began. Why do I always have to sit here, every night, protecting what’s left of this humble Universe…
I am waiting for the Wave of Mist. I am still fascinated by it, even after all these years. It is an army of androids I put today in its path, preparing for the battle of tomorrow. I remember… I remember the story of my Father, about the first day He discovered Bactriana. The Living Planet…
Father was one of the last people remaining on the planet where humans were born, Earth. He was, at the time, a normal astronaut (this is the name people who explored the space were called). I wonder if we now have a human who hasn’t been on a ship till the age of 10, hehe. After the global meltdown of Earth, He took a Scout and flied away in search of another habitable place. He flied where no other man has ever been: towards the end of the Universe. He crushed on Celgora half-dead, without supplies and in a broken ship, thinking only about a peaceful death. But a strange thing happened to him after he woke on the bottom of a lake, breathing water. He was alive; not hungry, nor thirsty, not at all tired, realizing He’d changed. From that day on, He was the God we all know, the human who drank from Celgora’s Water of Life!
He found out that His wishes materialized on Celgora, the planet giving Him whatever He asked for. He acknowledged He had a great mission, the one of building a better home for humanity. How naïve was He, in His kindness! Thinking that humans can live in peace and harmony!
He started by creating us, the actual Universal Lords, as His sons. Renex was the first, giving him the power over Celgora, the magical, immortal planet. He would be Father’s first follower as a God of the Universe. Ymer followed, as the perfect human being. Handsome and proud, he would be the leader of the masses. Order and chaos needed a strange mind like The Maniac’s to be controlled. The last was I, Duhu, the Genie of the Lamp, as old Terran stories called the one who grants wishes…
Knowing we won’t all be able to live on the same planet, each of us being so different, He teleported the best planets in the Universe near Celgora, Northern Lights for Ymer, the planet who was also known as Paradise, and Crew for The Maniac. At that point He remembered about Bactriana, the planet that terrorized Him when he was only human, the planet that almost had Him caught in the Mist Wave. He knew I was able to control it, so He gave it to me.
Bactriana is a living planet. Every night it sends out the Wave of Mist from its swamps, covering a large desert area, duplicating whatever it finds in its path, dead or alive. Like the Lord of Celgora, who just makes a wish before things happen, as Lord of Bactriana, I can reproduce thousands of things a night, from just one.
We began creating Carriers and Transporters, sending them to the remaining people on Earth and to other dying planets. We settled them in new, fertile planets; terraformed others. But it was soon that humans argued with each other. They spread chaotically into the Universe, breeding like rabbits and starting fights with each other. The Maniac couldn’t handle it anymore; Ymer’s promises of a perfect life were in vain; they started to ask me for weapons instead of happiness, and Renex himself planned to create an implosion of the Universe.
But we remembered a thing our Father told us, right before He left us, moving into a superior state of existence.
- Sons, I think humanity has a chance in this Universe, even though people don’t seem to deserve it. I created you to carry my dream further. Protect them from the back-stabbers and cheaters, but do not interfere with their wars! If they kill each other, let them do so. Still, the perfect Universe can exist!
